Star Trek - The Nerd Generation

I love trekkies. :-)

Starved of any current official Star Trek franchise, they've started to make their own episodes. God love 'em!

It's actually a hell of a lot of fun. We've already seen that Trek captains can be French, female or black, why not a geeky fat guy?

This episode (one of many in the "Hidden Frontier" series), is a classic time-travel episode. One of the golden rules of time travel in the Trek universe is that whenever you go back in time you always end up on Earth (presumably because the history of the rest of the galaxy is dull in comparison).

It features such pitch-perfect Trek lines as "The Titanic is somewhat of a hobby of mine". Another golden rule of Trekkie time travel is that no matter where they end up there's always one of the crew who studied that period as a hobby. "Actually, Captain, I used to build model Mongolian yurts as a child."

Anyway, I'm not mocking, I loved it. These guys are clearly having a whale of a time, and there's a certain tongue-in-cheek awareness of just how nerdy it is. Why else use the "Galaxy Quest" music as the show theme?

I'm off to the official site to download more. :-)

Getting all dressed up & parading about its not right.
...oh.
...So when does production on the USS Handbag start ?
Anonymous Natalie  Just....wow. I'm sat here watching the return on Kahless on TNG and you post this. The acting is awful and the choice of officers is just.....wacky.

Wow.
Blogger April Angell  OK - just watch me blow my cool rating right now.....

The ultimate star trek fan film has to be "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning" a 2005 motion picture produced by five friends in a two-room flat with a small budget and the support of a few hundred fans and dozens of acquaintances.

In Finland.

Its in Finnish so you have subtitles - but the sheer quality of the production and special effects rivals and exceeds major Hollywood productions.

Blogger Connie Cox  April I remember that and it was superb.

And to be honest to the fans, they are showing a lot more creative than most of the crap that killed Star Trek. Yes Voyager ,Enterprise and Nemesis I am looking at you.

Roll on the HD Orignal Series episodes with new effects.

Now back to my Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica boxsets :-)
