BRC
Phew. I just came down that lot.
Barcelona is a bit damp but great fun. Tranny spotting count has hit 4 already, without even trying. On arrival we popped into Burger King for a McWee (or whatever the Burger King equivalent is - a BK Slash?) and saw three, separately. Barcelona is just that kind of place. Which is just one of the reasons I love it. :-)
- More photos please!
- Penny M Were they in the ladies or gents? And whatever the answer, why weren't you in the other? :-)
- Dan fantastic shot

Ou est le singe?
By the wonder of the interwebs, a map of where i'm blogging this from. Just spent some time in the ape house in the Menagerie de Jardin des Plantes. They'd got several varieties of monkey, but not, alas, the famous Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkey. I tried to get Jane to ask a park keeper where they were, but she refused. Spoil sport.
- Jenny Harvey Le singe est dans l'arbre. As well you know
- En vacance? EN VACANCE! Actually, it is more grammatically correct to say "le singe est en l'abre".
- sophie h le singe est avec son nombre d'infinte d'amis. réécriture des travaux de shakespear

x - Graygrae Wow, that brings back memories, I used to live on Rue Buffon (on the bottom part of the pic). Great little eateries around there on the rue Monge and the windows on the Monde Insitut Arabe is someting to see. Have fun out there, I did!
- Helena Love You where in Paris this Weekend, cool, so was I (Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday Morning) just of must missed you :)

Hello!
Houses We're days away (hopefully) from putting two houses on the market. Jane's is finally in a sellable state (rather than just being in a state) and my place is as uncluttered as it's ever going to be. Last Wesnesday we had three estate agents visit in one day, which was a bit of trial, but we survived! They all gave us a similar price, and the good news is the bottom hasn't dropped out of the market (yet!) especially for first-time-buyer properties like ours.
In fact the recent down-turn is relatively good news, smaller places are still selling, and there's more of a buyer's market for the kind of properties we're looking to move in to. So, finger's crossed!
World of Warcraft Obsessed by it, at the moment. If you're even vaguely interested, I'm playing a Rogue on Argent Dawn, and I've just bought my first epic mount. Woot!
Er, yeah. Anyone still reading?
Barcelona We're off this weekend! Really looking forward to it, especially the overnight sleeper train from Paris, it's just going to be so romantic and special.
Bye for now!
-
Lynn Jones Ahhh, Barcelona. A lovely city. Enjoy!!
ps: Good luck with the house sale. - Rachel Don't get mugged in Barcelona like my daughter did. And good luck with your property sales.
-
Hi Becky!
Good to see you back. You know how we worry if you don't post for a while. Enjoy Barcelona. I hope to see it one day.
Dawn - sophie h Good luck with the house sales, and have a lovely holiday. Dont forget the photos to show us all on your return. :o)
- fwidman Have a great trip :) And, the best of luck with the home sales too!
-
cathiis Good luck with house selling. It is a bit of an ordeal but is worth it all in the end. I just sold my place in September of last year.... I am soooo glad it is all over LOL
Woot! WoW..... lvl 70 'lock on Hyjal... my toon name is Cathiises and I am doing a lot of dailies trying to get enough honour for the flying mount quests..... Of course my daughter now has her epic flying and rubs it squarely in my face.... grrrrr she has so much more time than me to play..... not fair...... Maybe this is why I am single.... rofl. - Thaumata Enjoy Barcelona. I used to have a flat about two minutes walk from the gothic cathedral and I still miss it terribly.

Transvestites fight to take back their name
"I'm a Transvestite and proud of it," said Hadik Tivadar, Mayor of Transvest. "My father was a Transvestite, and so was his father. They never wore an item of feminine clothing in their life! But these men who dress up as woman and call themselves transvestites, they degrade our good name!"
The use of the word transvestite as a label for men who dress up in women's clothing dates back to the 7th Century BC, when Transvest was the home of crossdressing poet ZrÃnyi SissÃ. He wrote of his love of putting on ladies' things, and the name Transvestite became synonymous with the practice.
A sample of Sissic Poetry (circa 630 BC)
A vision came of Aphrodite,
I must admit, I liked her nightie.
Associations with crossdressing isn't just troubling the mayor. In Llády (the capital of Transvest) the Headmaster of the local boys school is also up in arms.
"When I go to international headmaster conventions and tell them I look after the Llády Boys School, I'm laughed at!" he said.
A spokesperson from the neighbouring island of Räving Bénder was unavailable for comment.

Lara Tyg Becky web is a faithful & unfaultering source of deep, indepth & factual journalism. It's why I keep comming back here.
This coincides with news from Anglian water that high residual traces of LSD have been found in the water table of West Norfolk. - Flat Out I read the Graun piece on the King's Lynn train from Cambridge (before changing at Ely to be delayed at Thetford because someone tried to drive a big van under a tiny bridge - doh) and wondered if you would post about it. Then got back to the office and here it is! Brilliant. Totally cheered me up.
- Emma G Thank You for this!!! You just made my whole day one big smile!
-
Lynn Jones and the name Transvestite became synonymous with
Yeah. There's always one person who gets the name tarred for generations. Our local postie, Alf Hitler has the same problem. :) - transfattyacid Will the next thing be song birds complaing that the Kings Lynn football team are called the Linnets?
-
Penny M The populous of Transvest should celebrate the great Sissic poetry that their island has given to the world. Such as the classic, classical 'Ode to Tiresias':
There was a blind prophet from Thebes,
Who Hera decided to tease,
By swapping his gender,
He succumbed to suspenders,
fishnets, a thong and panties. - Wait a minute... "Off the coast of Hungary". Oh chinny reck on!
-
Becky Penny: I had no idea you were a student of the classics!
NH: That's just what the pope said to Gallileo! -
I don't know what these lesbians are moaning about. They live on a greek island, the weather is nice, most of the time.
other folks have to live in Chicken(alaska), or on Dildo Island (canada).
They could be wankers! I'm guessing thats what you call someone who lives at the base of the wank (a mountain in germany). -
LucyTolliday There's an Austrian village called Fuc*ing though you would know you were there because tourists apparently steal the road signs.
Some Swindonians are similally embarrased about their town name. - Ruth LOL, you've been reading the (true) story about the residents of the Greek island Lesbos who want to reclaim the word "Lesbian"...
- beth Ha! This sounds like an answer on "Wait, wait, don't tell me" (a US thing.... FYI)
- Not forgetting good ol' Buttf*ck, Illinois; home of Fudge's Packing Plant, the oldest such facility in the world, and the grunge rock group, The Uphill Gardeners.

On the move
I'll save the latest rant about FastHosts technical "support" for another day, suffice it to say that this site is changing hosts. You won't have to change your bookmarks or anything, but you might have to put up with some additional broken-ness while all the little bits of my site get wrapped in newspaper, carefully labelled with meaningful titles such as "miscellaneous bollocks, 2006 to present" and shipped off to their new home.
I'm off to shout at FAQs about DNS settings until they stop being deliberately all complicated. Wish me luck!
[Update: well that seems to have been relatively painless! HostingUK have been very efficient and BeckysWeb is now ensconced in a new home. It will take a while for the change of address to propagate worldwide, but if you're reading this on my site then you've come to the new address.]
- Joanna I've been gradually moving all my sites across to Heart Internet. Only the angels left to move. They've been pretty good so far.
-
Rachel "Only the angels left to move. They've been pretty good so far."
Aren't we always ;-) - Becky You could probably fit them all on the head of a pin anyway. :)
-
sophie h Hey, I know I a short-arse but even I dont fit on the head of a pin. :)
Good to see the site up and working again (so far) Becky. - The links to Flickr thing might have been Flickr themselves. I've been having trouble with them for days from direct links.
-
Becky I wondered that Serena. But everything immediately started working on the new hosts, and they still weren't working with the old host, so it wasn't a problem with Flickr per-se. Anyway, I'd been meaning to change hosts ever since this cock up, and the recent security fiasco. The new hosts are doing a better job for cheaper, so I voted with my feet.
P.S. Funny I was just wondering yesterday if you were still around as I'd not heard from you in a while. :) -
rachel Been hating Fashosts hosting and Loving their domain management since 1999. It seems they come up with a corker of a fiasco every few years where their hosting is concerned. :) I always keep domain management and hosting separate - for a quick getaway!
Hope your new home lives up to expectations. -
LucyTolliday I've yet to find anyone with a nice word about F******t.
Good luck with the new home. The switch looked seamless to me. - Ruth I do all my hosting myself; I just buy domains from 123-reg and then update the DNS to point to the (static) IP address of my ADSL connection - then I have a Linux server that sits in my back bedroom that I have complete and total control over that does all my hosting and whatnot.

- That's really fantastic!
-
Pandora Caitiff Becky's Fantastic Frank Sidebottom Homage Actually? LOL!
That's pretty cool. - Becky The likeness to Sidebottom was noted, Pandora. :-)
-
Lauren Close Having seen quite a few photoshops in my time, I think this is a fake.
If you look closely, you'll see the lighting on the face is coming from the upper left, but the lighting on the body is more centered. Also, there's a bit of a seam visible under the chin, and there's a bit of pixelation around the hair... - Emma G Can I borrow this technique for all the mornings I'm late for a meeting and there's no chance in hell I can get my face on right?
- Jenny Harvey This would clearly save valuable time getting ready in the morning and could solve my wonky eye problem. I imagine my arm may get tired after a few hours though
- Dawn The top off the head is chopped off! Is there any leakage?
- sophie h is this this years t-look for sparkle?
-
Sophie Green Hey! Don't forget to plug my website Bex! ;D
